Canada Post Revenue Verification Unit requires a sample of mail to be provided with each Esom (Electronic Statement Of Mailing) when mailings (LCP / Machineable Addressed Admail and/or Publications mail) are deposited at Canada Post. The sample is used to verify the weight, service type, postage account number and specifications for the class of mail.
The staff at Canada Post is not allowed to pull a sample of ‘live’ mail. If there is no sample with the mail then the entire mailing will be placed on hold by Canada Post until one is received. Please be sure to place samples and Esoms (all 3 pages of the Esom) inside a large envelope. Write on envelope “CANADA POST ESOM AND SAMPLES’ and attach that envelope to the last skid of mail loaded onto the truck.
Do not give the envelope to the driver; it can be easily misplaced that way.
Fraser Direct has been lobbying Canada Post to review the mailing categories of Addressed Admail over the past few years. The current number of categories and size restrictions creates situations where the mailer chooses to cancel the promotion; or chooses to work with other methods of marketing/shipping their product within Canada.
Canada Post has recently indicated that they may approve more options on a case by case basis. If you are planning any Direct Mail projects where the dimensions do not meet the current specifications, please provide us with the product dimensions, anticipated quantities and mail date. Fraser Direct will approach Canada Post with the information and work with them to encourage acceptance of the mail pieces.
