Fraser Direct Environmental Sustainability Report

The Fraser Direct Green team was established in early 2009. It is a volunteer effort of a committed group of Fraser Direct employees, created to review and manage environmental issues and practices in the company, and to make useful, sustainable suggestions to help reduce our daily ecological impact on our planet - here at work, and at home.

What is sustainability?

Although there are many definitions of sustainability, in the most basic sense, sustainability involves choices that are good for the environment, good for the company and good for our people. It is about doing the right thing, not being wasteful, and making wise consumer choices.

Objectives Achieved:
- Company wide recycling of office paper, corrugated, packaging and plastic
- Staff pledge - to reduce environmental footprint at home and at work
- Battery recycling program - battery receptacles at all Fraser Direct locations
- Idle-free zone in company parking lot- for employees and carriers
- Ban of plastic water bottles (company supplied stainless steel bottles)
- Waste-free Wednesdays - to reduce the waste created with our lunches to zero
- Elimination of photocopiers resulting in reduction of paper
- Implementation of electronic invoicing and payment policies
- Reduced excess packaging by making available correct size packaging
- Refitted warehouse light fixtures to more efficient fluorescent lighting
- Installed bicycle rack to encourage employees cycling to work
- Strong employee participation in community-run Practically Green program

Future Goals:
- Continued consultation with partners to reduce packaging waste
- Increase electronic document storage and transmission practices
- Tirelessly pursue recycling opportunities throughout company
- Retrofit office lighting for energy efficiency
- Add motion sensors to warehouse lighting
- Refine carrier approval programs to involve most energy efficient supply chain partners
